Take a Nordic quest with the Authors Guild Foundation to experience the stunning natural beauty of Iceland while immersing yourself in the country’s unique culture. The six-day, five-night journey will include a comprehensive tour of the island along with a firsthand look at the depth of Icelandic literature—from the ancient sagas to modern fiction.

Exclusive experiences will include an in-person meeting with a bestselling Icelandic crime novelist and museum trips with access to rarely seen, ancient manuscripts. The Writers’ Union of Iceland will also host us for a reception and discussion with local authors.

In June, Iceland has long daylight hours and mild weather, so we can comfortably trek to see the stunning waterfalls, geysers, and breathtaking landscapes. In addition to the guided group tours and shared meals, you will also enjoy ample free time to explore Reykjavík.

Viking History: Learn about the 1,000-year-old history of Iceland at the Viking World Museum and the ancient site of Viking parliament.

Museums in Reykjavík: From ancient artifacts to modern sculpture, explore the National Museum of Iceland, the Ásmundur Sveinsson Sculpture Museum, and noted art and architecture of Reykjavík.

The Golden Circle: Take a guided tour of the Golden Circle around the island, with stops at the Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir, Thingvellir National Park, the historic home of Nobel Prize-winning author Halldór Laxness, and other points of interest.

The Saga Circle: Follow the epic Viking journeys memorialized by poet-historian Snorri Sturluson on a guided tour of West Iceland and meet with contemporary crime novelist Yrsa Sigurðardóttir to discuss craft.

Icelandic Food: Discover the tradition of Iceland’s rye bread baked underground using geothermal heat, visit the Friðheimar tomato greenhouse for a tasting and Bloody Mary, and stop by the Old Fashioned Skyr Factory for traditional yogurt. Lunches and dinners will also feature local favorites and delicacies.

Árnastofnun: Specialist Gísli Sigurðsson will show us rare manuscripts of Icelandic folklore and storytelling at the University of Iceland’s Árni Magnússon Institute for Icelandic Studies.

Blue Lagoon: Relax on the final day with a scenic trip to the Blue Lagoon, a spa experience famous for rejuvenating geothermal mineral waters.

Additional highlights and activities will include the Icelandic Sagas show at the renowned Harpa concert hall, a meeting with an Icelandic language preservationist, fine dining at restaurants such as Kolabrautin for smoked arctic char, and more.
