Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world?

Like any artist, a writer provides a personal perspective–a voice–to the world. Writing is a lasting form of communication and education and reflects the writer’s perception of the world. I can’t think of a better way to have my voice “heard” outside of writing and publication.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block?

I’ve never suffered from writer’s block. If anything, I don’t have time to complete all the projects in my head! If I hit a slow spot in something I’m writing, I immediately turn to another project and keep up steam. Eventually, I’ll come back to the problematic project with a stronger perspective and pick up where I left off.

What is your favorite time to write? First thing in the morning … well, after a cup or two of coffee.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Just start writing and keep at it. Don’t put it off until you “have time to write.” Hop to it! Now!

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? Social media and technology have opened so many doors for writers, particularly from a promotional perspective. Getting your work out there is far easier now than it was even a decade ago. Publishers more and more expect writers to perform the promotional legwork. I actually enjoy having more control of my work, and in today’s age there’s no excuse to sit back and hope for success. Carpe diem!
