Member Spotlight: Patricia Yunghanns

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Writing  is important to me because a finished piece of writing represents a personal literary art form. On a broader level,  writing is an important medium for the world because it is a method that both preserves and transmits knowledge while entertaining the human spirit.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? One tried and tested remedy to cure writer’s block, that I have employed, has been to take a break and focus on something completely different. Another remedy, but one that might not seem appealing, is to start by going over the writing from the beginning. Next, I clean up the first loose end that I encounter. Then I return to the spot that needs to be continued and treat it as if it were a loose end that needs to be fixed.

What is your favorite time to write? I do not have a favorite time, as in time of day or night,  to write. However, my favorite writing sessions  are blocks of time that are analogous to meditation sessions.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? The best piece of writing advice I have ever received has been, “just write”. I have embraced this advice with a little change. It has become, “Just write, and must finish.”

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? I am most excited about being a writer in today’s age because of the plethora  of avenues open for transmission of one’s work.
