Member Spotlight: JT Hine

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Anäis Nin defined a writer as someone who must write every day, and that has always resonated with me. I can’t not write; my well-being depends on it. Passing meaning across space and time defines us as humans. I saw the beginnings of writing in the cave “drawings” in Spain; they were well-developed 35,000 years ago. Writing for readers far away and far in the future is still vital to us.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Writer’s block? Is that something little writers play with?

What is your favorite time to write? Anytime. What I write is what changes. My A period for creativity is after supper until about 03:00. B and C periods in the late morning. (A is pure writing; B is editing and revising; C is proofreading and more mechanical writing — like this form)

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Honor ALL your writing. Emails, journal entries, corporate reports, school assignments — all deserve your best, and they all count as “writing”.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? The increased efficiency and support from the tools of our time: internet, word-processors and communications.
