Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? Nothing brings more clarity, and richness of understanding, than the printed page.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? The basic one: Sit in front of my typewriter (now a laptop) until it passes.

What is your favorite time to write? Before noon–with rewriting in the afternoon.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Reading, reading, reading.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age?

I suppose because it’s still, by far, the best way for explain, illuminate, and bring degrees of subtlety to any question, or emotion, in fiction and non-fiction.
