Member Spotlight: Edward Tick

Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? We must speak and share our deep truths and we must feed our souls on truth, beauty, and meaning. Writing is one of the best tools we have to explore and express these dimensions and bridge the great distance between each individual’s inner life and our shared world.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? Assign myself a topic or form that feels urgent and needs to be written more than my block needs protection. Write haiku–simple, deep, present, truthful–to loosen my words and spirit. Read others’ inspirational writings.

What is your favorite time to write? Late at night when the rest of the world is asleep and there are no external disturbances.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? Write what you know best and what is most important to you from the truth of your own experiences.

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? With so many aspects of our world in danger, distress or breakdown, we are in dire need to create high and responsible consciousness together. Writing can be a great tool for this necessary process.
