Why is writing important to you and why do you think it’s an important medium for the world? If I didn’t know it before, I sure as hell do now. Writing is everything — it’s the way to process and figure out what is going on in our world right now. Writing is survival.

What are your tried and tested remedies to cure writer’s block? I never suffer writer’s block. I think it’s because I regularly engage with other writers, working with prompts, which keeps tons of ideas floating around in my head.

What is your favorite time to write? Early morning. It’s a habit I developed when working full time and getting an MFA.

What’s the best piece of writing advice you’ve ever received and would like to impart to other writers? “An artist is someone who finishes things.” Pete Townsend

What excites you most about being a writer in today’s age? I have discovered poetry in the last 3 years – something I never dabbled in before. It has been positively illuminating and presented the perfect way to respond to Covid.

Chris Arvidson’s The House Inside My Head is out May 20 with Finishing Line Press.
