Leave a Literary Legacy, Simply by Signing Your Name
We are so grateful to call you a friend. Your tireless support has helped the Authors Guild Foundation remain a steadfast champion for all authors.
By joining the Authors Legacy Society, you can be remembered as a champion of literature. At no cost to you today, your gift helps ensure that the Authors Guild Foundation will continue its outstanding record of service as the charitable arm of the nation’s largest society of published authors and as the leading writers advocate for fair compensation, effective copyright protection, and free expression for generations to come.
There Are Many Ways to Give
Many people like to bequest a gift to the Authors Guild Foundation by naming us as a beneficiary of any of these types of accounts:
You can avoid costly taxes on mandatory IRA distributions after reaching the age of 70½ through the IRA Charitable Rollover provision. This law allows you to rollover up to $100,000 annually to a charitable organization such as the Authors Guild Foundation and pay no taxes on that amount.
Life Insurance Policies
If you name the Authors Guild Foundation as the irrevocable beneficiary and owner of the policy, you obtain an immediate income tax deduction equivalent to the policy’s cash surrender or replacement value. Any benefit the Foundation receives from the policy will be excluded from your taxable estate.
Wills or Trusts
A gift through your will can take a number of forms. You may elect to designate a specific dollar amount. Or you may wish to include a percentage of what remains in your estate after other bequests are fulfilled.
It’s Easy to Do
1. Check your account statement for the phone number and website of your account administrator.
2. Request your beneficiary designation form.
3. Designate the Authors Guild Foundation as a partial, contingent, or sole beneficiary of your account or assets.
4. Sign and return the form to your plan administrator and keep a copy for your files.
If you are prepared to pledge a gift, please download our estate gift notification form to share with your financial advisor.
In addition to financial bequests, authors may wish to bequest their literary works and the copyrights in those works to the Authors Guild or the Authors Guild Foundation (collectively the “Guild”). In such cases, the Guild administers the properties and retains income generated from licenses, options, etc.
The Authors Guild Foundation is recognized by the federal government as a tax-exempt organization described in section 501(c)(3) and 509(a)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and a Type 1 supporting organization of the Authors Guild. By designating the Authors Guild Foundation as the beneficiary of your gift, you are entitled to the full range of charitable gift benefits.
