On February 8, a bipartisan group of Senators introduced the CLASSICS (Compensating Legacy Artists for their Songs, Service & Important Contributions to Society) Act. This bill parallels a similar bill before the House of Representatives, and would allow artists and owners of pre-1972 sound recordings to be compensated when their music is digitally transmitted.  Also, this week Senate Finance Committee Republicans met with the President to discuss trade and the ongoing NAFTA renegotiations. The Authors Guild recently signed on to a letter stressing that any revisions to NAFTA must contain protections for intellectual property rights.
