Each month we curate a list of contests, fellowships, and other writing opportunities with approaching deadlines. Opportunities will be posted in the month prior to their deadlines, so that you have ample time to submit your work or applications.

Fiction Contests

New Visions Award (Middle Grade & YA)
Eligibility: Unpublished writers, who identify as POC or native
Prize: $2,000 + publication
Deadline: August 1, 2022

Ernest Gaines Award for Literary Excellence
Eligibility: Rising African-American authors w/novels or short story collections published between Oct 1, 2021 through Dec 31, 2022.
Prize: $15,000
Deadline: August 15, 2022

Moment Magazine-Karma Foundation Short Fiction Contest
Eligibility: All writers
Prize: $1,000 + possible publication
Entry Fee: $25

Nonfiction Contests

Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Contest
Eligibility: All writers
Prize: $1,250 CAD
Entry fee: $35 CAD for Canadian entries, $45 CAD for everywhere else. Additional entries are $15 CAD per submission.

Toni Beauchamp Prize in Critical Art Writing
