This week’s batch of contests includes a Scandinavian translation prize as well as fiction and nonfiction awards. Deadlines range from June 1-2.

The American Short Fiction Short Story Contest is currently open for submissions. Entries must be 2,000-6,500 words. International submissions are eligible if written in English. The winner will receive $1,000 and publication in the fall issue of ASF. The runner up will receive $500. All entries will be considered for publication. Entry fee: $20. Deadline: June 1, 2014. The American-Scandinavian Foundation is offering two translation prizes for outstanding English translations of works written in a Nordic language. Fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry translations are eligible. The Leif and Inger Sjöberg Award is given to an individual whose literature translations have not previously been published. The winner will receive $2,000, publication of an excerpt in Scandinavian Review, and a commemorative bronze medallion. The Nadia Christensen Prize includes a $2,500 award, publication of an excerpt in Scandinavian Review, and a commemorative bronze medallion. Prose manuscripts must not exceed 50 pages; poetry manuscripts must not exceed 25 pages. Deadline: June 1, 2014. For more information, please visit the website.

The Southern Indiana Review is currently accepting submissions for the Thomas A. Wilhelmus Editors’ Award for a work of creative nonfiction. Entries should not exceed 35 pages. All themes and/or subject matters are eligible. The winner will receive $2,000 and publication in SIR. Entry fee: $20 ($5 for each additional entry). Deadline: June 2, 2014.
