The Commonwealth Club is now accepting submissions for the 83rd annual California Book Awards for books published in 2013. Applicants must be residents of California in order to qualify. The Friends of American Writers Literary Award is given annually for a book of fiction or creative nonfiction published in 2013 by a writer who is a resident of the Midwest or whose book features a Midwestern setting. Writers who have published up to three books are eligible. There is no application but authors should submit two copies of book(s) published in 2013 and an author biography. The National Endowment for the Arts Translation Fellowships are awarded annually to translators of poetry and prose who are working on specific translations of published works from any language into English. Grants are $12,500 or $25,000. Those who have received three or more Fellowships (in poetry, prose, or for translation) from the National Endowment for the Arts are not eligible. The PEN Literary Awards are currently open to submissions and nominations for the 2014 awards cycle. In total, PEN confers more than $150,000 to writers in the fields of fiction, science writing, essays, sports writing, biography, children’s literature, translation, drama, or poetry.
